The primary school curriculum focuses on concept acquisition and is inquiry-based. Students explore topics in mathematics; science; languages (Chinese, Spanish, French and English); global studies; arts; computing and physical education.

Middle School 

grade 6 -8

In Grades 6-8, ISA teachers implement the Cambridge curriculum with an emphasis on inquiry and on helping students make connections with other disciplines and the world beyond the school walls.

Grade 9&10

Grade 9 & 10

In Grades 9-10, students continue with the Cambridge curriculum and write the IGCSE in grade 10. At this level, students study specialized subjects in preparation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program or the A level. 

High School

Grade 9-12

IP DIPLOMA PROGRAM (DP)

The IB Diploma Program (DP) is the challenging university preparatory curriculum undertaken by most ISA Grades 11 and 12 students. Reassuringly independent and rigorous, the IBDP is the premium entrance qualification to universities around the world, recognized for its academic integrity, range, and the high level of study skills each student must develop to succeed.

Middle School (grade 6 -8)

In Grades 6-8, ISA teachers implement the Cambridge curriculum with an emphasis on inquiry and on helping students make connections with other disciplines and the world beyond the school walls.

Middle School students take nine core subjects each year and one elective. The nine core subjects are: English language; second language (French, Chinese and Spanish); mathematics; ICT, Art and design, science, and global studies. In addition to these, students are introduced to history in grade 6 (year 7), geography in grade 7(year 8) and Economics in grade 8 (year 9).

Five main curriculum objectives are implemented at this stage:

Citizenship in the Digital literacy:

Students develop an understanding of cultural and societal issues, including those related to media and technology, in order to practice ethical behavior.

Pursuit of Personal Growth:

Students demonstrate a love of learning and enthusiastically embrace challenges

Creativity and Innovation:

Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative processes using a variety of media.

Communication and Collaboration:

Students effectively communicate through presentations and a variety of media and work collaboratively to support learning and contribute to the learning of others.

Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making:

Students use critical thinking to plan and conduct research, manage projects, and make informed decisions using appropriate tools and resources.

High School

Students use critical thinking to plan and conduct research, manage projects, and make informed decisions using appropriate tools and resources.

Research skills:

Students effectively gather, evaluate, and use information from a variety of sources.

Students demonstrate a love of learning and enthusiastically embrace challenges

Entrepreneurial thinking:

students creatively develop an innovative business idea, write a workable business plan and embrace calculated risk. Students are required to select at least one technical course from an array of options. These technical courses designed to provide students with employable skills for life. Students can select a maximum of two technical course over the four-year period to enable them master the skills in the chosen profession. The technical programs are taken as extra-curricular during the weekdays /or on weekends.

Open-mindedness: 

students demonstrate appreciation of their own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. They evaluate a range of issues of global significance across various points of view, and are willing to grow from the experience.

GRADES 9-10 (IGCSE)

In Grades 9-10, students continue with the Cambridge curriculum and write the IGCSE in grade 10.

At this level, students study specialized subjects in preparation for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program or the A level.

Students are required to choose from the subject groups below. The maximum possible number of subjects a student can select is 10. students are however encouraged to keep workload at eight subjects.
students will only be permitted to study 10 subjects when they can justify so in a written letter signed by both the student and their parents.

 Students in Grades 9-10 take two compulsory subjects in those two years as well as elective courses chosen from an array of options.

 

GROUP 1

First Language English (compulsory)

 

GROUP 2 (students select only one subject)

French, Chinese, Spanish

GROUP 3 (students select at least 1 and at most 2)

 Economics, Geography, History, Business studies

 

 GROUP 4 (students must select at least 1 and most 3)

Chemistry, physics, biology, Environmental management

 

GROUP 5 (students must select at least 1 and most 2)

Mathematics extended (compulsory), Additional mathematics

 

GROUP 6 (optional, students can select only 1)

Art and Design, Computer science, ICT

In grade 10, students undertake a Project which allows for independent exploration of a topic of personal interest. It may be an artistic production, an engineering design, or another means of expression. Students set a learning goal and, with the guidance of a faculty mentor, develop a realistic plan for achieving that goal.

Cambridge AS/A Level

Students who desire to follow the A level track will select a minim of 3 subjects and a maximum of 5 subjects. students must have obtained a grade of c better in that chosen subject or related subject in IGCSE.

IBDP (Grade 11&12)

The IB Diploma Program (DP) is the challenging university preparatory curriculum undertaken by most ISA Grades 11 and 12 students. Reassuringly independent and rigorous, the IBDP is the premium entrance qualification to universities around the world, recognized for its academic integrity, range, and the high level of study skills each student must develop to succeed. The DP is recognized by colleges and universities throughout the world, often leading to preferential admissions and advanced standing for DP students.

At the end of Grade 12, IB Diploma candidates complete oral and written examinations in all of their Diploma subjects. Exams are prepared and externally graded under the supervision of the International Baccalaureate Organization; high scores may afford graduates university credit for their high school work.
